United Airlines Introduces Low Fares for U.S. Travel Beginning Jan. 1, International Travel Beginning Jan. 13

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 18, 2002--United Airlines announced today it has put much of the world on sale with exceptionally attractive fares for travel throughout the United States beginning Jan. 1 and overseas beginning Jan. 13, 2003.

"These sale fares offer the opportunity to escape to somewhere warmer (beaches) or somewhere colder (ski slopes)," said Chris Bowers, senior vice president-marketing and sales. "With United's low fares being announced today there is an added incentive to launch the New Year with an exciting trip."

The fare sale being announced today is supported by print advertising in major United markets and national newspapers under the theme, "Thanks for all your support. Just returning the favor with some low fares."

United's sale requires that tickets be purchased by Dec. 31, 2002.

Domestic U.S. sale fares require a 14-day advance purchase and Saturday night stay and are valid for travel from January 1 through April 4, 2003.

Here are sample domestic markets with the each way (based on required round-trip purchase) sale fare level United is offering:

Chicago-Boston, $99; Chicago-Los Angeles, $124; Chicago-New York City, $99; Chicago-Orlando, $102; Denver-Chicago, $104; Denver-Phoenix, $127; Denver-San Francisco, $99; Los Angeles-Atlanta, $173; Los Angeles-San Francisco, $56; San Francisco-Seattle, $73; San Francisco-Washington, D.C., $188; Washington, D.C.-New Orleans, $110; Washington, D.C.-Miami, $107.

International sale fares for Latin and Pacific destinations are valid for travel between Jan. 13 and March 31, 2003. Sale fares for European destinations are valid for travel commencing between Jan. 13 and March 8, 2003 and completed by March 14, 2003.

International sale fares must be purchased by Dec. 31, 2002. These fares require a 7-day advance purchase and Saturday night stay. (Exceptions are for Latin destinations a 3-day minimum stay is required. For Pacific destinations a 6-day minimum stay is required.)

Some sample international destinations with the each way sale fare (based on required roundtrip travel) are as follows:

DOMESTIC U.S./INTERNATIONAL FARE FACTS: Fares above are each way based on required roundtrip purchase for United Economy® travel on United Airlines® and United Express® carriers. Seats are limited and may not be available on all flights/dates. Purchase Requirements: Tickets for domestic U.S. destinations must be purchased at least 14 days in advance and within 24 hours of making reservations, but no later than 12/31/02. Tickets for international destinations must be purchased 7 days in advance and ticketed within 48 hours of making reservations, but no later than 12/31/02 . Domestic U.S. sale fares apply to U.S. and Canada point-of-sale only. International sale fares apply to U.S. point-of-sale only. Reservations and ticket purchases on united.com must be completed simultaneously. Travel Days/Dates: Domestic U.S. sale fares are valid for travel from 1/1/03 through 4/4/03, and are valid for travel from noon on Monday through 11:59 a.m. on Thursday and from noon through midnight on Saturday, except where noted below. Fares for other days of the week are higher. Sale fares for European destinations are valid Monday through Thursday for travel commencing between 1/13/03 and 3/8/03 and completed by 3/14/03, except where noted below. Stay: A Saturday night stay is required and the maximum stay is 30 days, except where noted below. Itinerary Changes: Domestic U.S. tickets are nonrefundable. No changes can be made after ticketed departure date for any portion of the ticket. Changes made before departure are subject to fare rules and a service charge of $100. International tickets are nonrefundable, but the return portion may be changed for a fee ($200 for Europe and $150 for Latin and Pacific destinations), provided the new itinerary is within the parameters of this offer, minimum and maximum stay requirements are met, and the origin and destination are not changed. Other Conditions: Fares are subject to change without notice. Other restrictions may apply. Lower fares may be available to select destinations. Exceptions for Hawaii: A 3 day minimum stay is required and the maximum stay is 60 days. Fares are valid for travel to Hawaii Monday through Wednesday and from Hawaii Tuesday through Thursday. Fares for other days of the week are higher. Exceptions for Florida: Fares are valid for travel to Florida Sunday through Wednesday and from Florida Tuesday through Friday. Fares for other days of the week are higher. Exceptions for San Juan: Tickets must be purchased at least 7 days in advance and a 3 day minimum stay is required. Fares are valid for travel to San Juan Monday through Thursday and from San Juan Tuesday through Friday. Fares for other days of the week are higher. Exceptions for Las Vegas, Reno and certain Ski cities: A 2 night minimum stay is required. Exceptions for the United Kingdom: Fares are valid for travel Monday through Wednesday. Exceptions for Latin: A 3 day minimum stay is required. Exceptions for Pacific: a 6 day minimum stay is required.
