MORE INFORMATION ABOUT HOW YOU CAN PARTICIPATE
IN
NEW YORK'S RECOVERY BY
VISITING NEW YORK
New York is the ultimate survivor. From Expedia
Travels' offices near Madison Avenue, they've watched the city working to
recover from September's tragedy. Only a sliver of the Financial District
remains closed, hoteliers and restaurateurs are fighting to fill empty rooms
and tables, and the sunset in Central Park is as beautiful as ever. Some
ways you can participate in New York's rebound:
* GET A CHEAP FLIGHT: Most major airlines are
running fare sales right now.
Delta is the most aggressive in promoting tourism
to New York; they're planning to
give away 10,000 free round-trip tickets
to NYC in the next six months.
Delta.com
New York-based airline JetBlue is offering $198
roundtrip fares from Denver, Seattle, Salt Lake City, and Los Angeles
(Long Beach).

* STAY IN A GREAT HOTEL: With occupancy rates below
50 percent, even top-end New York hotels are whispering the 'D'
word. The SoHo Grand has a weekend rate of $199 through consolidator Quikbook,
down from $299; the Omni Berkshire is also at
$199 on Quikbook, down from $339 on Sept. 10; and
small hotels such as the Franklin and the Hotel Wales have discounts of up
to 40 percent.

* EAT A FINE DINNER: Tables were available last
Sunday night even at Alain Ducasse, New York's swankiest French
restaurant.
But wait: New York's tourist board is
planning a Restaurant Week from Oct. 15-21, when more than 100 of the
city's top restaurants will offer $30.01 prix fixe dinners. This
summer's Restaurant Week featured meals at Japanese restaurant
Nobu, steakhouse Peter Luger, and French restaurant Cafe Boulud. Check
the visitor's bureau site for more information later this week:

Even dinners eaten in other cities can help New
York. On Thursday, Oct. 11, restaurants throughout the nation
will donate 10 percent of their revenue to the Windows of Hope
Family Relief Fund. For a list of restaurants, see the Windows of Hope
site.

* GO TO A SHOW: Nearly every show on Broadway is
selling tickets for half-price through the TKTS booth in Times Square,
and many off-Broadway shows are selling half-price tickets for theatergoers
with a ticket stub from another off-Broadway show. But "The Producers," "The
Lion King" and "Urinetown" are still sold out.
