Experts in both the travel industry in Britain, and Scientists in the US are telling us this is the most  marvelous time to visit Britain. Help  their economy, while taking advantage of some rock bottom
prices.  The country has been officially Foot and Mouth Disease FREE for many months now, but due to the out break in 2001 many establishments are more than happy to still give you price breaks to have you stay with them.

Another little known travel secret is that it is cheaper to travel the world from London than from most any other city. Going to Europe is very cheap with many different small commuter airlines, some associated with the larger ones.  Also, flights to places like Hong Kong, Beijing and Australia are much cheaper than going from the US for several reasons. Availability of flights, amount that the British people travel and the Bucket shops.  To find links to some of these
Bucket shops go to our  Links Page
to access some very cheap flights to Worldwide destinations from London.

We have also gotten wind of some very good Air fares, from the US to the UK.

Go to British Airways Web site to see the latest fares. From 21 US cities.

They can also be reach from the US or Canada, toll free:

We are here to give you answers to your questions. The Foot and Mouth Disease Outbreaks have completely stopped and the UK has been declared FMD FREE. But, because many people still have questions about it and there are still a lot of misconceptions we are keeping these Q &  A s here for a while from last year.  We can say with certainty that everything is now open and the country is happily enjoying all its many visitors.

We just returned from beautiful sunny days in the Lake District where we took many boat trips and even rode the gorgeous steam train.  It is a most marvelous place for children as there are swans by the lake as plentiful as ducks and when you come to the end of the line on the steam train trip, there are two Thomas the Trains all painted up with gorgeous faces.  Even us grown up kids got a thrill to see the old steam train puff along and blow its whistle.  Another thing to do in England, go to the York Train Museum, one of the best , if not "the best" train museum in the world, then do some train spotting out the back platform of the Museum, which over looks the York Train Station.  And the best part is, all the train fun in York is FREE .

Isn't Britain shut down due to the Foot-and-Mouth Disease outbreak?
NO, Everything is open, its over.

If I go what will I be able to do there? Where in the country can I go and where can't I go?
Go to British Tourist Authority Web site to get the latest on all the great things to do all over the British Isles.

Can I catch the foot-and-mouth disease?
NO, only cloven hoofed animals, such as Cows, Sheep, Pigs and Deer.
It is not a danger to humans. It can not be caught by humans, dogs or cats.

What are my chances of becoming a carrier of the disease and bringing it back to my country?
While people can not contract the disease, people can carry it on their clothes, shoes, suitcases, personal belongings. But, because people are under quarantine on their farms where there has been an outbreak, it is highly unlikely that you will come into contact with the disease. Also,
many of the country lanes are closed, so you shouldn't run into sheep, but there are never any guarantees when it comes to sheep.

What can I do to ensure that I am not carrying the disease when I return to my country?
Go to our  Information Fact Sheet   about FMD, which will tell you exactly what you can do to ensure that you will not be carrying it back.

What countries have had recent outbreaks?
Korea
South American; Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Uruguay, Brazil and Venezuela have recently had outbreaks. In Asia and Middle East; Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Quatar, and Kuwait all have new outbreaks.

Where can I go to get more information about the disease itself?
You can go to the Animal and Plant Health Inspection's Web site, an agency of USDA or
to the USDA's Web site for more information by following these links:
  APHIS
  USDA

What is the ultimate Authority for the most up to date information on the disease in the UK?
